Overcoming My Limitations Overcoming My Limitations
Ever since I began my daily Protector practice, things started to change for me. My mind became calmer and my anger issues started decreasing.... Overcoming My Limitations

I’m a naturally timid person; I have fear of almost everything. I have always felt insecure and that insecurity led to a lot of built-up anger, which put me in a foul mood most of the time. Appearances can be deceptive because you can always cover it with makeup; however our moods can never deceive anyone because it arises from how our minds operate and manifest in our expressions. Hence, I always gave people the impression that I’m always angry, unsatisfied and unhappy. Yes, I was a very negative person.

Not knowing of any method to better myself, I remained that way until I first met H.E. Tsem Rinpoche during an unofficial event in Kechara. That day, I had the great honour to receive some Dharma teachings and personal advice that literally changed my life. During that period, I was in the midst of “searching for myself”. I had quit my job in Singapore and returned to Malaysia for a holiday, and at the same time I was looking for new opportunities.

Rinpoche knew right away about my issues, and gave me a long Dharma talk on how to deal with my problems. I was also advised to do Protector prayers, serkym offerings and mantra recitations on a daily basis. Rinpoche did not speak much about the reason he gave me this practice but he said it would bear fruitful results if I was persistent in it. In hindsight, I guess there wasn’t much that Rinpoche could say about practices at that time as I was in my early 20s and quite skeptical about Buddhism and anything to do with spirituality or mysticism. However, I had nothing to lose and chose to follow Rinpoche’s instructions, hoping it could help me secure a promising job in Malaysia’s fashion industry and settle down.

Ever since I began my daily Protector practice, things started to change for me. My mind became calmer and my anger issues started decreasing. As a result, I became more forgiving, tolerant and could let go of things more easily. My mind has also become sharper and my memory has improved. This is how powerful Dorje Shugden is as he is one with Manjushri, the Buddha of Wisdom.

In the past, I was prone to car accidents, perhaps due to karma or maybe just my lack of awareness. But ever since I connected with Dorje Shugden, I feel as though there is a guardian angel around me all the time, who protects me from all sorts of obstacles – from obstacles in my mind to physical obstacles such as car accidents. This kind of feeling is quite surreal because you know you’re under his protection, although the protection is formless yet is always there for you.

Obviously, my prayers of getting a fashion-related job did not come true. However, I got the best job in the world instead, which is Dharma work. To many, working for Dharma is totally out of the norm, but who cares? I must say I have learned a lot, far more than what I could learn from working for someone else or a large company in the secular world.

Being in a Dharma environment, I get to face the most difficult things in life which are my mind, my own mistakes, and my weaknesses. But through Rinpoche’s teachings and Dorje Shugden’s blessings, I have the opportunity to unlearn and relearn, to transform myself and become a better ‘me’, a new ‘me’, instead of the ‘me’ who has been suffering from self-created unhappiness. After all, happiness is what people are searching for their whole lives. Instead of following the normal path that 90% of the world’s population is on (yet they seem not to have found happiness), I decided to follow the one person who has showed me that happiness is attainable through internal transformation. And because Dorje Shugden’s practice helped me overcome the small problems I initially had when I got to know Dharma, I became more confident and now have bigger goals as a Buddhist practitioner, which is to internalise and practise the Dharma.

Dorje Shugden’s blessings have no limit. It has brought my family closer to Dharma and now my sister is with me working for Kechara as well. To me, the best thing I can give my family is Dharma. I’m extremely thankful to Tsem Rinpoche, who has been guiding me along the way directly, indirectly or even subtly during times of need. I also believe the blessings from Dorje Shugden depend on how much faith we have in our guru, because our Guru and Protector are inseparable.

Thank you, Karen, for putting into words and perspective about your trials. Many of us face similar issues but are just aware of it, or not able to put their finger on it. We only see the consequences of our sufferings of anger but cannot or are not aware of how to break it down to manageable chunks for our minds to grasp and deal with.

The thought process was not in place and thus it becomes an endless spiral of unhappiness. I admire your ability to follow Rinpoche’s instructions even though you did not quite understand it. You just did it. And, the results are wonderful for you and a wonderful example to us on what we can hope to achieve for our families.

Very interesting sharing about how your life has changed ever since you joined dharma full time,Karen.
I have also realised and changed my perspective about the benefits of working in the dharma full time rather than working outside. i have personal experiences helping friends to join dharma that brings me a deep sense of happiness and fulfilling that puts a smile on my face that i can help them overcome their suffering. If given the chance i wouldnt mind joining dharma full time homebased if possible, instead of doing my full time online business.
    Rejoice to you Karen! :)

Thank you Karen, I share your happiness now that you have finally reached your final station and destination in life. From your story I gathered that your pursuit of the mundane life has not really bear fruit but after meeting Rinpoche and with his guidance it had snowballed into a beautiful intangible light. I must congratulate you for this wholesome decision as I believe it is not a daily occurrence and you are definitely privileged being able to received blessings and guidance from Rinpoche. Rinpoche could have dwell deep into your present life and he must have felt that you would have run around in circles had you remain where you were.
Rinpoche’s love and compassion for his students is something that we must not take for granted but must always hold it in our hearts with reverence and continually follow and uphold the teachings that he had lovingly taught and guided us.

Thank you Karen for this nice sharing. I like that Karen trusted Rinpoche and Dorje Shugden all the way. Working in a Dharma centre and for Dharma is the most precious experience one could ever get, and I couldn’t agree more. After all, there is nothing much in the secular world that is worth investing our time in. It is very heartwarming to know that Dorje Shugden had brought Karen’s family closer to Dharma. To me, this is priceless. :)

Thank you Karen for sharing your experience and rejoice for you that dharma has help you so much. Learning and practising dharma definitely help calm my mind. Having said so, I’m still learning to control my anger. Hence, will need to put more effort to improve my attitude and mind.

Dorje Shugden practise is definitely powerful. I myself experience how it helps me with my health and other challenges. Grateful to Rinpoche for teaching us dharma and giving us Dorje Shugden practise.

Thank you so much for the sharing. You not only speak clearly about the “miracles” happened and happening to you, but to many of those who practice Dorje Shugden and follow H.E. Tsem Rinpoche’s teachings. Most importantly, you speak so clearly even the most surreal and “hard to explain” miracles and happened; blessings bestowed to many by our Guru and Protector. Thank you.

Thank you Karen for sharing with everyone. Not many people can see their weaknesses or dare to acknowledge it, I think it takes great strength to acknowledge our own weaknesses even if its something that we have overcome. Many times, people also are not very truthful about how they overcome and became a better person, they would often attribute it to their own rather than the help they received. It’s really refreshing to read an honest article and story.

Karen, your story appeals to many new people who come to know about Rinpoche. From the early skeptical part of you till the seen it done it mode of yours today. I am glad that you followed through what was compassionately given to you by Rinpoche. Rinpoche is very clairvoyant and for him to have spent that long of a time with you just to make sure you understood it speaks volume of Rinpoche’s compassion. Anyways, it is rejoicing to hear your side of story from a negative person to a positive one.
