Starting on Dorje Shugden’s Practice Starting on Dorje Shugden’s Practice
Relying on Dorje Shugden could not be easier. In a place which is comfortable and calming, sit before an image of the World Peace... Starting on Dorje Shugden’s Practice

The divine manifests in many different forms, to bless, heal and protect those seeking guidance and a more harmonious way of life. One of the ways that divinity manifests is as the World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden.

Celestial and supreme, the Great Wisdom Being Dorje Shugden rides upon a mythical snow lion, adorned with the robes of a holy monk and brandishing a wisdom sword above his head to cut asunder the darkness of ignorance. In his left hand he carries a heart, a symbol of his unending compassion to heal the pain and suffering of all beings in existence. The heart also represents the completion of his assistance to you, the devotee. For like a body ceases to function without the heart, relying on this transcendent being will eliminate the root of our problems, so they may never arise again.

Relying on Dorje Shugden could not be easier. In a place which is comfortable and calming, sit before an image of the World Peace Protector Dorje Shugden. Have some simple offerings laid out before you – lights, a bowl of water, a cup of tea, some fruit or fragrant incense are customary but the choice of offerings is certainly not limited to these. In reality, seeing no faults in existence, Dorje Shugden will accept anything we offer him but as part of our spiritual practice, offering the best we can with sincerity will propel us on the path of developing meditative concentration, patience, joyous effort, generosity and of course, happiness.

As an Enlightened Being, Dorje Shugden does not need any offerings to come to our assistance but making offerings generates a stronger, deeper bond with him that will clear the path for us to receive his blessings. It is always easier to tap into the energies of the divine when we emulate the qualities of divinity, and one of the qualities of divinity we can develop is generosity. Setting out offerings for this Protector nurtures this quality within us.

Sit before your altar and take a moment to centre yourself. Focusing strongly on Dorje Shugden’s illustrious form, you may now generate a feeling of unshakeable devotion and great faith that this Enlightened Being will assist you.

As you recite your requests to him, visualise your body being filled with healing white light, expelling all negativities, impurities and obstacles in the form of black smoke. Then recite the daily request below for wealth, peace and protection

As you complete your recitation, visualise that your body is like clear crystal, light and luminous. Have faith and trust that your aspirations will be fulfilled, and you will become a source of love, harmony and peace for others. Peace is a universal language understood by all beings regardless of race, religion and culture and in this way, peace is the language of the divine. And if our world is a product of our thoughts and our being, then generating inner peace will result in outer peace and eventually, world peace.

Aim to do this prayer of blessings every day, to strengthen your connection with this supramundane being whose practice grants us light, healing and the wisdom to discern right from wrong, and light from dark. With wisdom comes clarity, and wisdom helps us to make the best choices so we can take our first steps in realising our spiritual potential.

A Daily Request for Sampatti1, Santi2 and Suraksa3

Composed by H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche
In the heavens4 there are myriad manifestations of the divine. All those manifestations specifically show us different aspects of divinity5 in order to be of benefit to all living beings. All the rupakaya6 forms of the divine have compassion, skillful means and wisdom. We invoke upon them whether we are happy, sad, down, lost, fulfilled, confused, empty, and during the whole range of emotions we constantly experience due to an untrained mind.

Understanding our nature, Great Wisdom Being Dorje Shugden, therefore all the more so, please hold us close to your bosom as an only child to a parent.

Though the manifestations of the divine need no offerings and gifts from us, we offer you supreme Manjushri7 Dorje Shugden a libation of tea, incense and mantras, in order to ask you to bless us, to be a part of our lives, to abide in our dwellings and to give us signs, omens and portents of both good and bad. When the negative arises, quell them immediately. Please increase the positive for my weary and worn mind as I lay my hopes in you.

When difficulties, problems and confusion arise, we ask you, who is but the culmination of all that is powerful, holy and omniscient to bless myself, family, loved ones, environment and even my pets. May I see wisdom, find hope, and be at peace.

I request you, O Divine Bhagavan8 Dorje Shugden, who wears a round dome hat and the three robes of a saffroned bhikshu9, who wields a sword of liberty, justice and wisdom and clutches a wish-fulfilling jewel, who rides on a supreme lion of subjugation of all that is negative, to fulfill my wishes. I understand my wishes may not be the best, so I surrender to your wisdom for the outcome though it may not be what I have in mind. Please bless myself and everyone that we may enter into the supreme city of liberation.

Great Bhagavan Dorje Shugden, I request you sincerely from my heart to be a part of my life, bless my home, and grant me wisdom, solace and comfort, that I might be of service to others without agenda, and that I may focus out onto others and not be fixated on myself, creating more problems for all that I hold dear.

Bless me to become kinder, wiser, more compassionate, tolerant and very forgiving to all those who hurt and love me. In order to become close to you, Dorje Shugden, we must surrender the banal. We must abandon fixed views, projections and rigidity. Lastly, in my final moment when I leave this plane of existence, only the positive actions I have done will matter as everything and everyone will be left behind. Let me realise this and act upon this now! At this crucial moment, please may I have a vision of yourself, the powerful and merciful Dorje Shugden, to take me to where I may course in the sky10 to continue my journey of spiritual waxing.

I offer you saffron-coloured tea and my faith to fulfill my prayers and gain siddhis11. By reciting your mantra, may healing, peace, love, long life, protection and perfect view of sunyata12 arise.

Mantra of fulfillment, peace and wisdom:
OM BENZA WIKI BITANA SOHA
(It is good to recite this mantra one rosary or more per day. Occasionally, engage in retreats where you recite the mantra 100,000 times or more per year, every year. Consistency brings results!)

I dedicate this supreme heartfelt prayer to the all-knowing Celestial and Supreme Protector Dorje Shugden, that I may quickly become a being of light, compassion, love and enlightenment.

The Dorje Shugden Practice is very powerful. If you have an image of Dorje Shugden, you can set up an altar if it is convenient and then follow what has said in this article to start. Especially just by reading the “A Daily Request for Sampatti, Santi and Suraksa” composed by H.E. the 25th Tsem Rinpoche , you can feel a very good energy.

Thank you for sharing this and I find it is much easy for me to guide my friend how to start the practice.

This is a very kind presentation of the practice as it is suited perfectly for modern day spiritual seekers who wish to embark on their journey towards peace, realizations and liberation. Dorje Shugden is very kind and I have heard from friends who started this journey witness his blessings and miracles as their wishes are granted or when they felt his presence at a moment of need.

I believe Dorje Shugden’s patience is revealed in this “simplified” practice that is very encouraging for beginners. It is also presented in an international language in an easy to understand manner.

I hope that many people will be encouraged to begin their spiritual practice with this perfect Dharma protector of our time. May he find a place in our hearts to bless us and protect us.

A compassionate Buddha will never turn away when help can be granted. It is the sole purpose of their existence, to benefit sentient beings. The only thing is we do not always has the best foresight what is good for us as we are not clairvoyant. We are driven by desires and not wisdom and compassionate. And hence this is where contradictions arise because we demand the deities to help us how we want it but not for the true benefit of ourselves and others.

It is not that complicated to rely on Dorje Shugden for those who understand His nature and purpose. Sincerity and good motivation is usually the key and a good start.

And the daily request composed by Rinpoche is short and concise.

It’s important to note that our motivation set an important role also before we begin with our practice. With the right motivation couple with the practice it will bring a fruitful result.

When we started with our practice with our offering it should be with a sincere heart in order for us be able to purify our karma and collect merits. Propitiating to Dorje Shugden is to support our dharma work and we need his protection and guidance for our journey in our spiritual path.

Sampatti, Santi and Suraksa (Wealth, peace and protection) are 3 main things that modern people are seeking for. As an enlightened protector, He suits sentient beings’ need in order to have a better relationship and so people can develop stronger faith in him. And when time is right, “praying” to a Protector becomes a life practice that liberate people from sufferings. That’s how skillful an enlightened protector is.

Dorje Shugden is protector on all levels until we achieve enlightenment.

With such a little affords and it enable us to have a link to Buddhas. It’s true that the Buddhas do not required any expensive offerings from us just to grant us blessings but by offering what we can get out of the best at the moment or items that we value a lot will be perfect to serve as an offering. Such high value of offerings do generate great amount of merits which would make the way for us to obtain blessings or helps from the Buddhas, especially, the Great Dharma Protector, Dorje Shugden.

I have printed a few copies of this short prayer to give it away to people who are new to Buddhism, for them to connect to Dorje Shugden, this is an excellent prayer composed and from this, we can easily see that with just a short prayer like this, when we do daily, we can already receive Dorje Shugden’s blessing and protection.

This prayers is very good for the beginners and for the people who are having a busy schedule, because it requires only a very short amount of time for us to create a better bonding with Dorje Shugden in a daily basis.

Members of Kechara perform a puja to Dorje Shugden once a month. There are volunteers who buy the offerings, volunteers who clean and prepare the place for the puja, volunteers who set up the offerings, and other volunteers who clean and clear up after the puja. It is wonderful to see people gather together to perform this once-a- month puja to Dorje Shugden.

Thank you H.E the 25th.Tsem Rinpoche for compassionately composing a prayer for us to do as a daily request and offering to Dorje Shugden. I was told that as soon as Rinpoche finished composing the prayer, it started to auspiciously drizzle. It’s not the first time that auspicious signs has occurred when Rinpoche does or completes meritorious and vastly beneficial works.

It is important that everyday we upkeep our daily prayers so that we can create a stronger connection with Dorje Shugden that would fuel our merits to receive his help when we need it. I cannot imagine my life without my teacher Tsem Rinpoche and my protector Dorje Shugden both of whom have benefitted and helped me in ways beyond comprehension. I feel safe knowing that I have met both enlightened beings in my life and feel at peace and protected whenever I chant Dorje Shugden’s mantra.

Tsem Rinpoche is very kind to compose this short prayer of Dorje Shugden for the busy modern people who prioritise their career and family over spirituality. It’s not wrong to have different priority. Understanding the nature and characters of the city people, Rinpoche has always compassionately create something for us to practice spirituality with our limited time in between work and family. Rinpoche’s skilful means in spreading spirituality to everyone knowingly and unknowingly arose from his great compassion to us. Thank you for propitiating this World Peace Protector practice to us and we have been greatly benefited from this practice.

      Hi,
I’m new to Buddhism so please bear with me. In this post it seems that the idea is to request help from an entity whose reality depends on your own imagination unlike, \an actual person who exists regardless of what you imagine. So what is the difference between seeking to solve problems on your own or with the help of real person and seeking the same goals from an imagined person or being? Why is seeking help from a being in your mind preferable to a real person or even from your own self.?
      Thanks. Finn
