I have been a student of Tsem Rinpoche since 1996, and through the kindness of his teachings, have benefitted and gained much more clarity on my life’s purpose. I heard of Dorje Shugden as a Dharma Protector in 2011, but I didn’t really take much interest in the practice since I was already practising Setrap.
However, it was not until the beginning of 2015, when H.E Tsem Tulku Rinpoche recommended the Dorje Shugden practice that I started looking into it to understand how it could help in my Dharma practice. It took me several months of reading and learning, mainly from the blog, but it wasn’t until the middle of the year when I started to incorporate Dorje Shugden prayers and serkym into my daily sadhana.
Since then, I have found benefit in various ways which I would like to share.
I would say that the main assistance that I get from Dorje Shugden answering my prayers relates to my work as a doctor in a private hospital. There have been many occasions that I have had critically ill patients on ventilators in the ICU. Due to the very high cost of ICU treatment, many family members are not able to afford this, and find themselves in a very heartbreaking situation of not only having a loved one seriously ill, but also having to deal with the financial burden.
Many request to transfer out to ICU in a government or semi-government hospital. As most doctors will know, ICU beds in the government hospitals are in great demand and are tremendously difficult to come by. Patients are usually turned down due to the non-availability of beds. However, on two occasions when I asked Dorje Shugden to help, I did get a call back saying that there were beds available, and this also seemed to come at a time just hours before I am due to go on leave, and so the doctor covering for me didn’t have the headache of having to look for an available ICU bed.
There have also been other small ways in which I felt that Dorje Shugden has helped my patients, in that some will recover and for those which I was sadly unable to help, there have been one or two occasions when Dorje Shugden had prolonged their life long enough for the family to accept the impending death and for them to arrange prayers for the patient to gain more merits and perhaps have a better rebirth.
On a personal basis, I had been praying for obstacles to be removed so that my family and I could do more Dharma. In fact, I had been praying for years that my children would be able to attend Dharma classes at Kechara. My wish finally came true within months of practising Dorje Shugden and some of our obstacles were removed to enhance our spiritual journey. Although I still struggle with those obstacles, I must say that they have become lighter over this short period of time since I have been introduced to Dorje Shugden and I can only look forward to practising more Dharma with Dorje Shugden blessings.
