Posted on November 22, 2016 #1 AuthorIn Buddhism, incense is used to puja offering and purification. Lord Buddha use incense as a parable to uphold vinaya to create pure scent and pure smell. An example is the story of Magadha Sangmo, the daughter of one of Buddha Shakyamuni’s lay disciple and a primary patron. Offering incense reminds us to constantly uphold our vows and commitments purely. The offering of incense also signify the restoration of our broken vows and commitments. Thank you for this video.

The prayer is especially meaningful as it offers the incense to the Three Jewels, Buddhas, Bodhisattvas, gods, dewas and local guardians of the area.
Ever since my husband and I were introduced to sang offering, we make this offering everyday except when we are travelling. We especially love to offer the Tibetan incense with herbs.

Incense is akin to upholding one’s morality. It is good to do incense offerings practice daily because it reminds us to uphold our vows and commitment purely and constantly. Besides, the benefits of incense offerings are to restore our broken vows and commitments, creating causes of long life and good health and also increase merit of a person to further their dharma practice.
Tsem Rinpoche recommended students to make incense offerings to invoke protection and blessing from the protector when there are obstacles and danger in the lives. We can invoke upon the protector by burning a small amount of incense combine with a bit of protector incense and protector rice when we are at unclean or dangerous environment.
