His Eminence Kyabje Daknak Rinpoche was born in 1961 and is the brother of His Eminence Kyabje Dagom Rinpoche. Daknak Rinpoche’s ordained name is Losang Yeshe Thinley Gyaltsen which means “pillar of goodness, wisdom and precious undertaking”.

Rinpoche is considered by many to be the Nirmanakaya form of Buddha Amitabha and Dharmapala Setrap and is seen as a Living Buddha at both Zetho Monastery and Sera Mey Monastery. Zetho Monastery is Rinpoche’s personal monastery located in Lhorong, Chamdo Prefecture, Tibet.

Daknak Rinpoche first studied at Drepung Monastery and then Sera Mey Monastery under the tutelage of eminent masters including His Holiness Kyabje Zong Rinpoche, H.E. Dagom Rinpoche and H.E. Zemey Rinpoche. Rinpoche kept faith with the precepts and teachings of the pure lineage and practiced all methods, important instructions, sutras and principles that were taught to him.

In 1996, Daknak Rinpoche received the Geshe Lharampa degree, equivalent to a Ph.D. within Tibetan Buddhism. This was awarded after examinations at the three major monasteries of Gaden, Sera and Drepung. During the same year he entered Gyume Tantric College.

In 1999, he travelled to Taiwan and devoted himself to propagating Buddhism there. In 2000, Daknak Rinpoche established a centre in Tao Yuan, Taipei, Taiwan called The Chinese Gandenpa Buddhist Centre. The founding of this centre is due to the dedication of H.E. Daknak Rinpoche and his efforts in spreading the Gaden lineage coupled with the Protector practice of the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden.

In early April 2012, Segyu Gaden Phodrang Monastery invited and hosted a series of teachings and pujas by Kyabje Daknak Rinpoche. At this teaching, Rinpoche bestowed a White Tara empowerment as well as a brief commentary on the practice. In gratitude the monks of Segyu Monastery performed a long-life puja to assist in creating the causes for Daknak Rinpoche to remain in the world and continue turning the Wheel of Dharma for a very long time.

In October 2012, Daknak Genden Lhundup Ling opened its doors to the public. This monastery houses a very special bhumpa, or ritual vase, which is an important ceremonial item used during initiation ceremonies and various other pujas. Like all bhumpas, it has a long spout and a detachable peacock feather for pouring and sprinkling water respectively. The water from this bhumpa is said to remove negativities and to chase away evil spirits when sprinkled or poured over persons, places or objects. Besides the focus on the Gaden Lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, the centre also focuses on the practice of Trakze, the wrathful form of the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden, in particular.

H.E. Daknak Rinpoche still travels frequently between Taiwan and Tibet. He also travels tirelessly to other countries around the world such as India, Nepal, China, Hong Kong, Singapore, Thailand and Mongolia to spread the teachings of Lama Tsongkhapa and the practice of the Dharma Protector Dorje Shugden. Another thing that is close to Rinpoche’s heart is providing medicines for the needy as he believes very much in alleviating the sufferings of beings.

At present, Kyabje Daknak Dorje Chang is based in Taiwan and continues to teach there because he cannot bear to see people fall from the Dharma path and hopes to free sentient beings, who are regarded as all our mothers, from their sufferings in samsara.
