The founder of the New Zealand Kadhampa Buddhist Association, H.E. Serkong Tritul Rinpoche, hails from Gaden Jangtse Monastery in India. He has been working tirelessly for many years to spread the Dharma and teachings of Lama Atisha as well as Lama Tsongkhapa to the world with the aim of alleviating the suffering of beings.

Serkong Tritul Rinpoche began his teaching tour in 1989, travelling between Tibet and many other countries. Within three years, he had travelled to Taiwan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mongolia and China to give teachings.

It was on one of his trips in 1999 to the eastern part of the world that Serkong Tritul Rinpoche visited New Zealand, where he gave many Dharma talks and organised a series of Buddhist events which attracted a multitude of students, sponsors, supporters and friends. As time passed, the New Zealand Kadhampa Buddhist Association came into being and officially opened its doors to the public in March 2008.
