There are praises to Dorje Shudgen in the Sakya tradition. It is also evident that people of the Sakya tradition do Dorje Shugden practices although the way Dorje Shudgen is being depicted might be a little different.

I will like to know if anyone know how is Dorje Shugden being depicted in the Drugpa Kargyu tradition and the Nyingma tradition. If Dorje Shugden is being depicted in a different way or is the depiction similar to what is shown in the Gelug tradition.

I have read articles that say that Dorje Shugden look similar to the Dorje Ta’og or Dorje Legpa (whom is said to be oath bound). Some say that these deities are actually Dorje Shugden. What I will like to know if these are all different deities and if there is any images of Dorje Shugden in the Nyingma and Drugpa Kagyu traditions.

Dorje Legpa does look a little similar but he is not Dorje Shugden…. well technically all Enlightened beings are one, and Dorje Legpa is believed to be the emanation of Heruka.

As for your question, Dorje Shugden in the Sakya tradition is depicted a little different, as he rides a black horse instead of a snow lion.

I have never seen Dorje Shugden depicted by Kagyu, but I have heard there are those who does his practice.

In the Nyingma tradition, I have also seen so far, one thangka of Dorje Shugden with Guru Rinpoche as the lineage lama. I am unsure if this is really a Nyingma thangka, or a Gelug practitioner with a particular close affinity with Guru Rinpoche. But in any case, it is highly likely that it belongs to a Nyingma practitioner. See the pic attached, I found it online when I did a search.

    Guru Rinpoche and Dorje Shugden

    Hope this answers your question.

    Hi Sarah,

Thank you for your explanation. It did helped me a lot. I never knew that Dorje Legpa is the emanation of Heruka. I always thought that Dorje Legpa is a mountain spirit that was subdued and bound to help protect the Buddhadharma.

It is just really cool like how similar Dorje Legpa and Dorje Shugden looks like. To think of it. How Trijiang Rinpoche is the emanation of Heruka and he is the main lama that is spreading Dorje Shugden practices makes you think that is there any connection between the two. Why is there so many coincidences and all.

    Just thinking out loud here.
